Democratic, Corrupted "India" ...

We have expressed our anger, helplessness, disagreement, criticism and dissent in the last few months, about the ongoing issue of corruption - in our polity, bureacracy, administration, at people in positions of power, in short, in whole "India".

It is time to ask,

Do we have any ideas / suggestions / proposals to offer to fix this deep rooted, organised, institutionalised corrupt practices ?

One thing that is clearly evident, is a truth :
it is our tolerance, and inaction for decades that has contributed to this growth. We failed to raise our voice, dissent, protest all these years and are to share the blame too.

And those that say, there still are many amongst us, who do in their individual capacity, fight these practices and live by clean principles, yes while this may be true, the nature and extent of this malaise calls for collective, nationwide, proactive action to fix this. And Now.

Here is my view and suggestions.

1) Since we are a democracy, and we have 543 MPs representing 543 geographic constituencies across the country, each MP has to be made to present his timed plan (monthly, yearly targets) for development of his constituency during election time. The action plan/promise must include a prioritisised commitment to address, basic issues of sanitation, drinking water, medical infrastructure, education, policing and safety, etc. He must be made (by law if necessary) to hold periodic meetings with local representatives/ people of his constituency to review the progress of his targets. And where he /she is found failing, and does not deliver or commit offences, or engage in illegal activity to reach his target...he must be made accountable and punishable through a local referendum which will be issue based.

The same could be extended to state representatives - the MLAs in their constituencies.

When each MP and MLA has to make a committed promise (not empty manifestoes), and will be audited / reviewed by the local people periodically, it will bring in transperancy and accountability. The MP or MLA will then do the job he is elected for - ie., to reperesent and serve his people. This is his job description and he will meet his targets to stay in the job. His job will be subject to review by the people who elect him ie., give his job.

2) There should be fast track investigative and justice mechanisms instituted or strenghen already existing laws and courts, to deal with serious offences of financial, ethical, criminal nature. And judgements of punishments have to be immediately carried out without delay, fear or favour.

Infact we have got a wikipedia page on this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corruption_in_India
It says - A 2005 study conducted by Transparency International in India found that more than 45% of Indians had first-hand experience of paying bribes or influence peddling to get jobs done in public offices successfully.

Just two ideas to set the debate on.
Read and React. Its all yours.
Over to your positive suggestions!

That Evening of 2010 ... [Dont remember the day and month]

Dada, Ek Vadaa-Pav dena ...

"6 rupees only."

After a day off at office and was at a vadaa-pav centre for some refreshment.
As I scrounge my pocket battling for those 6 rupees, I watch them walking towards me (or) the shop. As time passed by, everyone picked up a vadaa-pav from dada's center. I wouldn't call them my closest friends, let alone, may be best buddies for some point of time. They're those people in my friends zone who come with no emotional entanglement, no long facebook chat messages, no erratic phone calls at 12 in the night post depression session or may be during bithdays, yet they do have an important place in my life. May be sometime of m life, I may miss 'em, a lot.. but as you know everything is fair in love, war and friendship. They probably wont stay after the completion of this vadaa-pav, or may be somewere in near future and even if they do, our pragmatic relationship will not be touched, coz by far thats obvious in today's modern era, or so called "our generation".

We sit down on the roadside together on the couch, all of us looking at the buzz-town boys and girls smoking or chattering across the road. The crowd is chaotic as usual out here as though they got lost midway after a party or while returning from a live match from the stadium. I find it almost funny that we sit there in silence amidst them and let out a giggle and someone, a hiccup.

Lost in some thought or something else, the others don't notice and I don't mention. I then started refreshing my mind for what to do next if at all a sentence called - "what's next" exists. 20 mins pass and the crowd seems to have dissipated to a lesser number.

Suddenly, all of us look at each other and realize the same thing. "Wow, we forgot to speak all the time we were at the refreshment centre. Infact everyone were lost in their own life, thinking what to do next or whatever".

Suddenly, a small whispering sound comes from the middle of us. "Yeah, chalo be. Let's go. I was thinking, I kept on wandering what must have made all of us to remain in silent for that span of time. But as I look back, the time has flew away. I can't find anything on that topic, except some moments to be remembered."

I don't remember anything what happened after this moment on that evening nor did I ask any of my buddies what they did after reaching home, but as distinctly as happened, that day I decided that these chaps (or) fellows (or) buddies, came a step closer in my friend zone and had been promoted from being just daaru buddies to maybe, better daaru buddies.

Cheers to those who made my life wonderful that evening, Cheers for our friendship.
They were Tanmay Vankalas, Vishal Budhawant, Ajai Pal Singh and Ankit Goyal.

"Thats what a friend is for, when your lost in darkness and searching for the light, to help you through those lonely nights, when everything around you fails just hold out your hand, and i'll come running, thats what a friend is for." - Marty Keith

Captured Moments of The Past :|

It rained yesterday evening and the smell of wet muddy soil and crisp air overwhelms me. It takes me back in time, when it was all so complicated, simple and pure. It takes me back to school, my drive on my bicycle to school, my hostel, to the long walks from the dinning hall, to the Maggi parties and bathroom water fights. The walks lit by the moon, the misty mornings where I woke up to the voice of hostel warden shouting at somebody, hoping to squeeze out an extra minute(s) and dancing to the latest song played on my laptop at any time of the day or night. There are so many such memories I would like to forever and ever keep in my arms and visit in times like these.

I closed my eyes and random images pass by. Of faces, places and moments. They start of in a random order then go on to suddenly spin around and come together. It is mysterious and at the same time magical. I would trade anything asked for if I could just go back for a few seconds to those sandy paths, those flowering trees and those familiar faces. The warmth, compassion and sincerity of relationship. The passage and stillness of time and memories. The everything of everything.

I was chatting with a junior yesterday and we spoke about our hostel lives. The ice breaking session, the freshers performance, the clothes people wore, the morning ramp walk in the dinning hall, the faces turning sour on seeing the Idly and what not.

As much as I tell myself that I have moved on and that is the past. It will never leave me and deep down I never want it to. It is a treasure trove of memories, some of which make life worth living.

Boys Hostel. Kitchen. Four Rooms. Bed. Chair. Coffee. Her. Moonlight terrace nights. Music. I miss everything and everything.

Us and Them.
Then I remember, its life, you have to move on and on and on :)
Someone truly said - Life changes from hell to heaven and vice-versa in a flash.

Note - This is a very abrupt post written in a flash. It may not be that good. Sorry :)

Vodafone -- Real Life Of "ZooZoo" ..

ZooZoos are the eye-catching funny –looking creatures in the new Vodaphone ads. Those cute, lively and funny characters have now become an icon for Vodafone. Fresh from the Vodafone shelf, these characters promote the telecom giant’s Value Added Services in a quirky and interesting way.

The ZooZoo is cerated by O&M for the latest Vodafone campaign featuring value-added services. The ad spots are being regularly shown during the IPL telecast.

It is said that though the ZooZoo characters look like animation, they have been played by real people. The real people dressed in a white cloths which has made it a challenging task to depict real characters to look like animated characters. Also the sets are being constructed by shadows created by spray painting.

Referee - Death Threats !!!

Norwegian official Tom Henning Ovrebo has been smuggled out of England after fears for his safety, coz he received many death threats.

Tom Henning Ovrebo was confronted by several Blues players, most notably Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack, following the game after the west London club were dumped out of the competition, seeing Barca entering into the UCL finals scheduled to be held on may 27 at Rome. Having failed to award Chelsea a penalty during the match, of which there were around three or four separate claims, the Norwegian has apparently become a target of a hate campaign from the club's supporters.Drogba turned towards the ref and put his face just three or four inches from the ref’s face and kept shouting. He told the ref, ‘This is a f***ing disgrace, you don’t have respect, something like that can’t happen. You can’t do that. Ballack even tried to abuse the referee , but came back in to the pitch in order to escape.

Now a last wish ..Barcelona ought to be thrashed by Manchester United with a big margin ! Glory Glory Manchester United !

INDIAN POLITICS ...

INDIA ...

India is a vast country with more than 1 billion people and made up of 28 states and 7 territories many of whom have larger populations and land areas than most European states. The largest state, Uttar Pradesh, has a population which would make it the fifth most populous country in the world if it was an independent country.

It is the most populous democratic country in the world, having continued with a parliamentary democratic regime for most of the time since independence in 1947 (with the exception of the State of Emergency period from 1975-7). Politically, there are a vast number of divides – ethnic, linguistic, religious, class and caste-based – which are politically salient. Despite this, however, the nature of the first-past-the-post electoral system still serves to divide most of the parties into two different coalitions and blocs.

Firstly, there is the current governing coalition – which calls itself the United Progressive Alliance and which came to power after the 2004 elections . It is dominated by the Congress Party – which has traditionally dominated Indian politics. The opposition is called the National Democratic Alliance and is dominated by the BJP – which is traditionally seen as a Hindu-nationalist party in contradiction to the secular nationalism of Congress.

Both the NDA and UPA coalitions contain a wide variety of regional parties in them. For example, in the southern State of Andra Pradesh, the BJP is allied with Telugu Desam – which is a regionalist, Teulgu nationalist party, representing the largest ethno-linguistic group in the state. In Tamil Nadu, both the Congress and the BJP have regionalist parties who are their allies – the DMK and the AIADMK respectively.

The communist parties – who are grouped together in the Left Front – also do well in some areas, but are not a presence at all in other states. In West Bengal, they have governed the state for the best part of the last four decades and they alternate power with Congress in the state of Kerala in the south. At a national level, the Left Front is affiliated to the United Progressive Alliance and supports the present government from the outside.

The political alignments in India show the tendency of first-past-the-post systems to produce a 2-bloc system – even in such an ethnically and linguistically and religiously fragmented country. The existence of a federal system also enables ethno-linguistic groups to have a degree of autonomy, without the need to achieve actual independence. This has proved successful in reducing the degree of secessionist demands from political forces in the south and the north-east of the country.

Furthermore, and of more concern for the Left, the nature of political discourse and rhetoric in the country makes it difficult for the communists and others on the Left to make a major impact. By mobilising people on ethnic, religious and caste lines, the scope for the Left to make an independent appeal on the basis of class and ideology to voters has been limited, outside of certain areas. When they have been able to achieve power in a state, as they have done in Kerala and West Bengal on repeated occasions, they have managed to make a positive impact on the lives of people in the state. Kerala in particular, under successive Communist and then Congress administrations, has managed to reduce illiteracy and increase life expectancy to far higher levels than those in the rest of the country and in the rest of the developing world. It shows that, where there is the political will, a government can modernise and tackle poverty and backwardness within a developing country despite the obstacles that exist.

However, the current pro-market approach taken by the government of Manmohan Singh does not prioritise direct assistance to improve the conditions of the rural poor. Under the influence of right-wing economists, the World Bank and the IMF, the government has been following free-market policies. These policies seem to have raised the growth rate (although not to as high a level as in China) but the benefits of the growth do not seem to have benefited the poorest – as hundreds of millions still live in absolute poverty. The failure to tackle this was one of the reasons for the change of government in 2004 and the defeat of the 1999-2004 BJP government. Congress needs to avoid making the same mistake if it is not to lose in 2009 to resurgent forces on the Right.

So for now, we have to just wait and which big man wins this year's elections ! hope the best and deserving candidate wins !

and hope you all friends and people voted !

Happy Birthday "Google"...

Wanna know the place where google started in this tech-tik world??

From humble beginnings in a garage in California's Menlo Park, for $1700 a month, the company is now one of the most recognised brands in the world. It boasts annual revenues of nearly $17bn (£9bn), profits of roughly $5bn (£2bn), growth of 35% and a worldwide workforce of over 19,000 full time employees.

Today it controls around 40% of online advertising as well as 70% of search. Its suite of products is ever expanding and this week it launched its own internet browser called Chrome to compete with Microsoft's Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox.

Google is not alone in invisibly structuring its operations so it can collect more and more information and data about all of us and deliver our online behaviour to a growing list of advertisers and fatten the Google bank account.

The world is no longer at Google's feet and looking at the launch of Chrome there was a real deep scrutiny of the product and Google's motives which resulted in a change to the wording of its end user licence.

I first used Google in 2000 or 2001 for some work, which i dont remember.I never thought it would be anything like it is today.

Google is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.Google’s billionaire founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin want to celebrate this year in a style.

Hats Off to Google...

Singh Is Kinng...

After Manmohan Singh became the Prime Minister of India, there has been always many jokes and rumours flowing around in India between him and Sonia Gandhi.

A recent movie was released starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif named "SINGH IS KINNG".

Its running successfully all over India despite many ups and downs in the Punjabi culture.

And now the movie is dubbed in the Parliament type view with the same title but featuring Manmohan Singh
and Sonia Gandhi.

Director-L K Advani

Producer-Congress :)

Ufffff.....Another Joke added to his life....

Poor Manmohan!!! Pity him...

Wagah Border...

Interested in seeing the impressive daily ritual of the Flag-hoisting and Flag-lowering ceremonies at Pakistan-India border?? It is worth travelling on G.T. (Grand Trunk) Road for 29 km (18 miles) to Wagah, which is a border crossing between Lahore and Amritsar in India.

The Flag-lowering ceremony, which takes place before sunset is particularly interesting. It is performed by active and smartly turned out Pakistani and Indian soldiers and receives spontaneous applause from the audience from both sides gathered to watch the ceremony.

The ritual comprises a handshake between the captains of the two countries, followed by a battle of angered looks, stomping with vigor to show military strength. The blowing of trumpets and the march past add to the colorful ceremony. It is a unique and thrilling event much enjoyed by people who come from long distances to view it.

Is INDIA Really Independent...???

Whether India is really independent ???

Why such question !

" We hoist our National Flag whithin a circle that is surrounded by bullet proof glass, armed security guards, army personal, strict vigil etc." So, is it that real independence which we proudly celebrate even after 61 years of 15.08.1947 !!!

JUST COMPARE THESE TWO PICS OF PAST AND THE PRESENT DAYS AND SEE THE SECURITY FOR OUR FLAG HOISTING NOW .

Still we fear of the terrorist attacks that may cause our Independence Day into a Death Day...

We can still hoist our nation's flag with pride and honour without security if we really feel that we true Indians can lay down our lives for our mother country whatever may be the situation. We all friends, relatives, near and dear speak about doing something which makes our nation proud,so why not this???

INDIA is our motherland and live without any fear for being independent and thus making the soul of freedom fighters and the great martyrs who gave up their lives in many battles fought for our country in peace .

Freedom is not a Right but a Feeling!
Let's be proud to feel the Freedom!
Let's say loud we are INDIANS!!!

Let all of us get to-gather &
Let's Celebrate Our Freedom!
It is our duty to preserve this Freedom!
Carry this forward to the future!
We did,We do,We will do!!!

Set the celebration on Air, Share your Joy, You're Free to do it.

LEGAL Milestone For OpenSource..

Advocates of open source software have hailed a court ruling protecting its use even though it is given away free.

The US federal appeals court move overturned a lower court decision involving free software used in model trains that a hobbyist put online.

The court has now said conditions of an agreement called the Artistic Licence were enforceable under copyright law. Legal experts have said the distinction is important since under federal copyright law a plaintiff can seek statutory damages and can be more easily granted an injunction than under contract law.

The ruling has implications for the Creative Commons licence which offers ways for work to go into the public domain and still be protected. These licenses are widely used by academic organisations like MIT for distributing coursework, scientific groups, artists, movie makers and Wikipedia among others.

Gloss @ Wiki ...

Gloss at Sastra has always been a wonder. But does anyone rememberthat Gloss page was also created at Wikipedia. GLOSS conducts many seminars and workshops every month in which many interested students of SASTRA University learn about various open source products and exchange knowledge and ideas.Gloss is highly acknowledged even by Sun Microsystems.

This is one of the most happening club at Sastra.Myself, being the Co-ordinator for Promotion Wing of this Club, request my friends to give up some time for posting new upcomings at WIKI too...WELCOME TO TOMORROW!!!

Sachinism.com ... :)

Sachin Tendulkar..the master blaster !
He has developed so many fans in this world ,which i think no other personality will be having. He is a gem for all.No matter how he plays,no body thinks or indicates that he dint play well.
And watch out here...we have such great fans in our country that they buy and run a website on Sachin and his Heroics.Tendulkar requires no defending.

Like all great sportsmen, his figures speak for themselves. Like all great performers, he has lasted a long time and produced many staggering innings, so many that they tend to be taken for granted. But remove him from the Indian team and see how naked it looks! Tendulkar is worth more even than the runs he has scored.

Tired , Irritated , Bored to the core ....Uuuuff..

This is turning out to be a bad bad month. I thought the last month was lousy but then this one comes along and takes the cake. Now, despite whatever little savings I had, I am paying a tiny fortune as tax. I spent my whole weekend running around trying to get my stuff in order and I had no time for relaxation. God I'm whining now.

Fine... talking about something positive..... DAMN! There ain't anything positive about this bloody month. I have some dumbclasses coming up from monday again.Being able to finish work soon will be a boon. Yeah, this may be a good start to the new month.May be i will have a good days at least in september!!!
Have to wait and watch on & on & on...

The Demographic Shift...Social Networks!

As a society, we are entering an increasingly narcissistic phase, enabled by web technologies — a theory that is articulated in Wired’s recent cover story. As the Wired writer quips, “Like it or not, we are all public figures now — famous, as the new cliché goes, for 15 people.”

The evolution of blogging platforms needs to match these societal and demographic changes. I think folks who are blogging now (no, not just tech bloggers) are different from some of us early bloggers — they use different tools and services and have different views of sharing. In many ways MySpace and Facebook have changed what is OK, and what is not OK online.

With that as a sub-text, it is good to see the blogging systems start to evolve. Kudos to Six Apart for making the first major move. Suddenly, blogging tools are more fun — and social.

YES!!! Wireless Electricity ...

For years I've been arguing with people that it is possible when they
claimed it isn't. I had nothing to back my claims but hey...

YES! Now commercialize it.. and start with the cancer studies.
